DIAGONAL WEAVE STITCH

Multiple of 4 sts plus 1

Row 1: (wrong side) - purl
Row 2: K 1, *sl 1 wyib, k 3; rep from*
Row 3: *p 3,sl 1 wyif; rep from*, end p 1
Row 4: k 1,*drop sl-st off needle to front of work, k 2, then pick up dropped st and knit it; k 1;
Repeat from*
Row 5: purl
Row 6: k 5,*sl 1 wyib, k 3; rep from*
Row 7: *p 3, sl 1 wyif; rep from*, end p 5
Row 8: k 3,*sl next 2 sts wyib, drop sl-st off needle to front of work, sl the same 2 sts back to the left-
hand needle, then pick up dropped st and knit it; k 3; rep from*, end k 2
Repeat rows 1 - 8

This stitch sequence produces an elegant, firm fabric.
It is used in “Knit Kimono” by Vicki Square (Reeds and Grasses, p. 49)
It is found in “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” by Barbara Walker (p.99)
I find the latter’s instructions easier to follow; I am sometimes pattern challenged!
